TSI FAIR TRADING AWARD (Introductory)

This course is designed for staff in a customer-facing environment, where a basic knowledge of criminal and civil law will support their role. The half-day learning session is written and delivered by an accredited TSI trainer. The course covers:

• civil law
• criminal law
• elements of a simple contract
• implied terms
• Sale of Goods & Services Act 1979
• Consumer Protection from Unfair Trading Regulations 2008
• guarantees

At the end of the session, students will be awarded an 'Introduction to Basic Fair Trading Award' certificate.

TSI FAIR TRADING AWARD (Intermediate)

This course is designed for all staff including those in:

• supervisory and management roles
• customer service departments
• the shop floor
• contact centres
• customer relationship roles
• regulatory compliance departments

This one-day classroom-based course includes an exam at the end of the day. A TSI accredited trainer delivers the course. Upon successful completion of the exam, students are awarded the ‘Intermediate Fair Trading Award’ certificate.

The course provides detailed information covering:

• the trading standards officer's role
• the national home authority principle
• what to expect from a trading standards visit
• consumer protection laws including the Sale of Goods Act 1979, the Sale of Goods & Services Act 1982 and the Consumer Protection from Unfair Trading Regulations 2008
• criminal law and legal defences
• age-restricted products
• civil contract law and implied terms
• product safety
